So, Who's Phil?
Phil Ondersma
has been buying and antiques and collectibles for nearly thirty years.
He
got his start doing antique shows and flea markets on weekends,
traveling to Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania,
Massachusetts, Florida and anywhere else that struck his fancy.
He expanded to renting booths in area antique malls, and before
he knew it, he had accumulated so much stuff that he had more
than enough inventory to support a store of his own.
Phil
purchased an old storefront (the former Loveland's Drug Store)
on historic Wealthy Street, and proceeded to restore it to its
former glory. The shop is has an eclectic collection
of 'traditional' fare, generously interspersed with the odd and
the quirky. Shortly after he opened
for business, both he and the shop were profiled in the November 2002 issue of
Grand Rapid Magazine.
In
an online article by
Rapid Growth Media, Phil admitted,“I’ve
dragged stuff home all my life...Now that 'stuff' is available
to whoever needs it at what most would consider bargain prices."
Although posted hours are Saturdays 10-5, you'll usually find
Phil at the shop on Friday afternoons, working with his two
assistants, Rosie and Riley. He's in and out during the week,
but can usually be reached by phone at 616.581.2510.
